Vestibular Rehab

Since patients are able to seek physical therapy as a treatment without a physician referral in SD, some of our therapists are highly experienced in evaluating dizziness and balance to diagnose the source of dysfunction.  Diagnosis could be BPPV (benign peroximal positional vertigo), migraine, anxiety, Meineres disease, vestibular neuritis, or cervicogenic headache.

Treatments:

Manual Therapy:

Joint mobilization, myofacial release, and soft tissue mobilization for treatment of neck mobility deficits and related soft tissue tension/trigger points

Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF):  manual techniques that helps improve recruitment of dormant muscles

Vestibular System

Exercise:

Habituation drills compensating and improving the eyes, ears, and sensory system’s ability to process information

Balance exercises for improving ankle, hip, or trunk strategies

Proprioceptive exercises to retrain the body’s awareness of space and gravity

Canalith Repositioning Maneuvers:

For treatment of BPPV using using a variety of sequences dependent on diagnosis of the portion of inner ear that has been affected (eg.  Epply Maneuver)
